Election day might seem like a long time away, but from now to November there are only 5 months for both presidential nominees to make their case.

Last week the political world was shaken, but not necessarily taken by surprise, when President Barack Obama officially stated his support for same sex marriage.

Super Tuesday is a phrase used to describe the specific day in which a large number of states hold primaries and caucuses. Super Tuesday, like most primaries and caucuses for presidential nominations, is held every four years usually on a Tuesday in February or March.

It's 2012, people! That means another presidential election year is upon us. President Obama, who has had the support of environmentalists in the past, is running for a second term. But can he sustain their support competing against the GOP candidates?

The Iowa Caucus is important for many reasons.

At the top of the list is timing. The Iowa caucus is held at the beginning of the year, which makes it the earliest indication of which Republican or Democrat is in the lead according to the American people. Currently in the 2012 election year the focus is on the Republican Party and which member is favored as the candidate with the most potential to run against President Barack Obama.

MTV might be known for the VMAs, their New Years Eve special, or Jersey Shore, but there is more. MTV knows politics and they want you to be able to know it too!

MTV, like organizations such as "Rock the Vote", are very aware of the importance the youth vote has on any election. They also understand that the younger demographic needs a place to get their political news from and that is where the "Power of 12" comes in.

The GOP debates returned and they came back strong.

It was an early Christmas present for those competing for the Republican nomination this week, because not only did they get a chance to speak on Wednesday, November 9th, but they also got a chance to redeem themselves the following Saturday.

The Presidential election consists of two major political candidates, most often from the Democratic and Republican parties, and any Minor Party candidates that are running on the election ticket. For the most part the Minor Party candidates represent a cause that the Major Parties tend to incorporate into their platform, which is usually why minor parties do not win. Although, they do make an impact by placing emphasis on the issues that are relevant to society at the time, like having the major parties place emphasis on work day and time regulations.

Michelle Bachmann, Herman Cain, Newt Gingrich, Jon Huntsman, Ron Paul, Gary Johnson, Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum, and Rick Perry, these are the names of the candidates fighting for the Republican nomination on the Presidential election ticket. One of these nine names will be running opposite President Barack Obama in the 2012 Presidential Election, which is pretty important.

For people who visit or live in Washington D.C., there is a wide variety of museums and cultural centers to visit.  The Smithsonians alone are composed of 19 different museums and galleries, and the National Zoo.  In the coming years, however, there may be one more museum built on the National Mall for people who want a little culture to go visit.  If the National Museum of the American Latino Commission is successful, then soon there will be a Smithsonian museum dedicated to the history and culture of American Latinos alongside the other Smithsonian museums on the National Mall.
