For Lauren Conrad, though, the career change from MTV cutie to designer/author/blogger is going rather seamlessly. After her exit from The Hills in spring 2009, the Californian blonde beauty set her sights on the fashion world. Launching two successful lines, Paper Crown and LC by Lauren Conrad, she became an inspiration to fashionistas across the country. Conrad is also focused on her writing career; the first spin-off book of her L.A. Candy series, The Fame Game, is set to be released on April 3rd.
Differences had the opportunity to chat up the 26 year-old Conrad about her busy schedule and how she manages to stay so chill in a hectic world. Spoiler alert; girl's got a good head on her shoulders.
Differences Magazine: How's life away from the public eye and reality television?
Lauren Conrad: I never really minded being on TV but it is nice to have my life to myself now and be a bit more private with what I do personally.
DM: Do you still keep in touch with your castmates from Laguna Beach or The Hills?
LC: Yes! Some of the cast members like Lo are people I have known since I was a little girl, so our friendships certainly remain intact even though we aren't shooting.
DM: What are your future plans with your clothing + accessories line at Kohl's?
LC: I continue to design LC Lauren Conrad exclusively for Kohl's. I really love the way the line has evolved and am so proud of my partnership with Kohl's. Last year, we expanded to shoes and accessories, which has really been a fun adventure.
DM: In your opinion, what's going to be the next big trends in the fashion world in the upcoming months?
LC: I don't know about huge trends, but I will say that I was very inspired by toule this season for my Paper Crown collection. There is something so whimsical about toule and we have a few pieces I just love. On the runways I did see a lot of color. I think color is such a great part of fashion.
DM: How did you conquer writers' block, if you ever encountered it?

DM: On top of everything else on your plate, you also launched a website, LaurenConrad.com. What compelled you to create a site so personal?
LC: I love the look and feel of LaurenConrad.com. It very much represents who I am and all I love. I created the site in response to the many things the fans have asked me over the years.
DM: Who or what inspires you?
LC: I am inspired by things in everyday life, things I see daily and also travels. I think looking at other cultures is very inspiring.
DM: Juggling so many things keeps you busy, but that doesn't mean you don't have free time. How do you like to relax on your off days?
LC: I love to get together with close girlfriends and watch girlie movies, hang out and relax.
DM: What tips could you give to future fashionistas to help them succeed in the fashion world?
LC: I always say my internships really shaped where I am. School was amazing and gave me the basics and paired with internships I learned so much. I also think working in the retail space allows you to see what people are buying so those summer jobs are really helpful.
